The cycle route along the A25 is simply a painted line alongside a road used by large vehicles. At times it narrows to almost nothing, forcing cyclists further into the gutter where they are at danger of hitting obstructions and debris. There is ample space alongside the verge in much of the route for a dedicated cycling/footpath.

• Will improve road safety if upgraded to bridleway as horses and bicycles could be ridden off the road which is a dangerous fast rat-run with a very long blind bend. As a multi-user path this will benefit connectivity for a large number of local residents in Newdigate, Capel and Beare Green.

Any other comments?

This is a public footpath. In winter it is impassable due to the boggy ground. If surfaced, it would not only provide a safe off-road path for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to connect with the local villages and schools, but would provide an excellent link to nearby bridleways.

If the proposal is to simply paint a white line on the road to create a cycle lane, as has been done on the Reigate & Banstead section of the A25, then this would be very poor. All the existing R&B cycle lane does is encourage drivers to pass closer! If however, it is to create a "proper" cycle lane, then it could be beneficial. It should also address the multiple pinch points created by the traffic islands in the centre of the road (e.g. in the centre of Buckland), which again simply encourage drivers to squeeze through a non-existent gap
