I live in Bookham and cycle to the High Street for shops. I support this measure but feel we need more cycle parking at both ends of the High Street. I also am convinced we should be building protected cycle routes between Bookham, Effingham, Fetcham and Leatherhead to enable cycle journeys to be an easy choice for people of all ages. The cycle lane to the Howard should be substantially upgraded and protected to encourage cycle journeys to schools (would benefit Dawnay and Eastwick Schools too). This would also help reduce traffic if others were able to cycle and keep spending local.

The existing cycle parking is sufficient for the top end of the high-street. There is no cycle parking beside the supermarket. The high-street should be made one-way for vehicle traffic.

Is thus really necessary? Surely the funding would be better spent widening footways on the High Street that are too narrow to allow for social distancing.

This doesn’t go far enough. The High St. Bookham should be completely pedestrianised to encourage a safe, revitalised street for shopping and leisure. Plenty of alternative parking is available and the road is so narrow already that driving down the street is anyway a nightmare. Time to re-think the future of our High Streets - they are dying - trying to re-live the 1960s is delusional. While you’re at it - 20mph zones throughout Bookham & Fetcham.
